Senior C++ Engineer

Penango, Inc. is looking for an experienced, native C++ software developer for Windows. Knowledge of JavaScript, JScript, JS engines, and diverse transfer syntaxes (ASN.1, XML, JSON, and other flavors-of-the-day) is a plus. As our first Senior Windows Developer (aside from the founders and other lead engineers), you will have an opportunity to shape Penango's rigorous approach to computer and web security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and test the next generation of Penango for Internet Explorer, Penango for Google Chrome, and other Penango applications, extensions, and utilities, using C++ for the Windows platform
  • Design, implement, and test parts of Penango for Google Chrome on Windows
  • Use native Windows features such as GDI, High DPI, CryptoAPI, Event Logging, Direct3D/Direct2D, WinSock, threading and thread pooling, Active Directory, Winldap, and other systems with dynamic linking for feature enablement on operating systems ranging from Windows 2000 through Windows 8 Work as part of a small, elite, fast-moving team to meet aggressive schedules for enterprises and privacy-minded individuals worldwide
  • Incorporate unit tests into new and legacy code
  • Create and maintain system specification and subsystem specification documentation
  • Design and implement user interfaces using native Windows/Win32 APIs, with the ability to adapt to new environments, such as Windows 8/Metro
  • Prepare documentation and paperwork used in the planning and preparation stages of the application
  • Be passionate about size and speed of the code, while ultimately providing a sublime and satisfying user experience
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge necessary to design state-of-the-art software using trade journals, the Internet, forums, and other sources


  • Requires at least seven years of experience with Object-Oriented-Design using the C++ programming language, preferably Microsoft Visual C++ on the Windows platform
  • Must have good problem-solving and code-debugging skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft UI and resource frameworks a plus
  • Understanding of Subversion and Change Management tools
  • Must be able to meet periodically for code reviews and design sessions in West Los Angeles/Santa Monica, CA (telecommuting possible but will have to be an exact fit)
  • Must have work authorization in the US
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science from a top university; Master's or PhD a plus
  • Assembly language programming a plus
  • Multi-platform experience a plus
  • Familiarity with enterprise deployment and configuration scenarios, such as Group Policy and Active Directory a plus

Digital Marketing Intern

Your email should be read by only you.  Penango, Inc., an encryption and authentication webmail startup, is located in Los Angeles, CA with a second office in Washington, DC to serve our government clients.  We are looking for a digital marketing intern to start in late summer and continue on through Fall semester.
The Digital Marketing Internship will provide a unique opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience at a startup. Penango was founded by Sean Leonard who has a MS from MIT and a JD from University of Chicago.  Marketing efforts are lead by Kelly Yee, who has a MBA from UCLA Anderson and has co-founded a digital marketing firm.  Our interns don’t sit at a computer doing boring data entry and run errands but instead will be given real forward producing progress in the company’s initiatives. This is a hands-on real-world experience working with marketing projects.

What we are looking for?

  •  Be a smart, agile thinker (can come up with creative out of the box solutions)
  • Easy going personality where you don’t easily get flustered or frustrated
  • Have passion to learn about Internet Marketing and Social Media
  • Proven organization and self-managed ability to get things done with minimal supervision
  • Enjoy writing & storytelling (blogging, press releases, articles, etc.)
  • Creative talent (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) would be a plus but not required
  •  A Business, Marketing, Advertising, or Journalism major is preferred but not required
